While lawn irrigation systems can make your life easier and keep your grass looking healthy, there are some things you should be aware of that can cause issues. Here is a list of what to watch out for:
- Proper spacing of sprinkler heads — Good irrigation system design will ensure that the sprinkler heads are spaced out equally over the entire yard so that it gets consistent watering.
- Tube capacity — The length of tubing matters when it comes to the proper operation of your irrigation system. If there is too much or too little tubing compared to the flow rate of water, there will be inconsistent water flow.
- Inadequate flow rate: The flow rate of water is measured in gallons per hour from the water supply. It should be equal to or more than the flow rate that is required by the irrigation system in order to work properly.
- Wrong water supply pressure: An irrigation system requires 25 pounds per square inch of water pressure to operate correctly. If the pressure is too little, there will be inconsistent water flow. If there is too much pressure, the fittings may pop off and cause water to squirt out rather than drip.
Another factor to be aware of is matching the water zones to the needs of your plants. Different types of plants have different watering requirements. Try to keep the same kinds of plants together in the same watering zone so that they get the proper amount of water.
