Creating A Low-Maintenance Yard
Although you may not be busy caring for your Florida yard during this time of year, you may be dreaming of the spring and summer and the changes you would like to see. Would you love a low-maintenance yard that doesn’t need to be mowed, watered, raked, or treated for weeds? There is no better time to plan the perfect low-maintenance yard than the winter. It could be ready for you to enjoy this spring!
Ways to Achieve a Low-Maintenance Yard
It is important to decide how low-maintenance you would like to be. The first step would be to decide how much grass you want to keep and where you would like it located. The next decision is to decide what you would like to add to take up the space. Some ideas we have are:
Add a Walkway
Adding a cement, paver, or large stone walkway can use some of the extra space. It could be a way to get from the front of the house to the back, lead to a private sanctuary in the yard, surround or lead to a pool or even to a storage shed. Depending on your selection of materials, be sure to use a heavy landscape fabric under to deter weeds.
Add a Patio or Outdoor Space
The beauty of living in Florida is that we can enjoy our outdoor space for most if not all of the year. Adding a beautiful patio or outdoor space can create a sanctuary for family and friends to gather. These spaces have become so popular that the sky’s the limit with ideas.
Add Landscaping
Adding landscaping to your yard is a great way to take up space as well as improve the curb appeal of your property. Native plants can withstand the weather and thrive all year long. Perennials reseed and regrow each year with no need for intervention. The remaining areas can be filled in with mulch or stone.
