Irrigation System Don’ts
Your irrigation system is an investment, and it’s important to know how to care for it properly to avoid the need for repairs. If you’re unsure how your system works or think there might be a problem, we’re here to help with any repairs you may need. To keep your irrigation system running smoothly, here are three things to keep in mind:
Don’t Forget About Your Irrigation Schedule
One of the greatest benefits of an irrigation system is the ability to set a schedule for automatic watering. However, it’s essential to update that schedule regularly. Rainfall can fluctuate, especially during the summer, and overwatering can lead to complications like damaged grass or the need to replace your lawn. Be sure to adjust your sprinkler settings to match the current weather conditions.
Be Mindful When Mowing
If you mow your lawn yourself, it’s crucial to know where your sprinkler heads are located. Sprinkler heads that are raised above the soil can easily be damaged by a lawnmower. If a sprinkler head is damaged and goes unnoticed, your lawn could flood the next time the system runs. Always take care when mowing near sprinkler heads.
Check Your System During the Winter
As winter approaches, it’s important to continue inspecting your irrigation system. Although we don’t experience frequent freezing temperatures, it can happen. Make sure the water supply to your irrigation system is turned off during the winter, insulate any exposed pipes, and cover your pump to protect it from the elements.
