Irrigation System Maintenance Tips
An irrigation system is designed to help you not only reduce water waste, but also to ensure that your grass, flowers, and landscaping are getting the optimal amount of water they need to thrive. One of the best ways to ensure that your irrigation system functions properly is through regular maintenance. Periodically inspecting the different components of your irrigation system does not just help you get the most out of your system, but it should hopefully eliminate surprise repairs when something malfunctions, keeping the overall expense under control.
Inspect the Control Panel
The control panel is the brains behind your entire system. Be sure to regularly check any wires or sensors to be sure they are tightly secured. Also be sure to check the time and length of your watering schedule to ensure that your property is being watered at the optimal time. If your system runs based on the time, be sure to make adjustments for the time change twice a year.
Inspect Sprinkler Heads
Make it a habit to routinely walk your property to inspect the appearance of sprinkler heads. Lawnmowers can damage heads, causing them to need replacing. This is especially important if you use a lawn service or a riding mower where it is harder to see if damage is done. Children can also damage a sprinkler head while playing. Be sure to show your children the location of any sprinkler heads in your yard.
Do a Sprinkler Test
If your sprinklers are run in the early morning or late evening hours when there is little to no sunlight or you are sleeping, it is important to do a test of your sprinkler system. This ensures that the water is directed in the proper place and the sprinklers are functioning properly.
