Tips To Recover From Storm Damage
If you’ve lived in Florida for a while, you know that we are prone to summer and fall storms. Hurricane season typically lasts from June 1st through November 30th, so we are still in the period where storms are possible. We’ve previously shared tips on preparing your property before a storm, but what about recovering afterward? Experiencing a tropical storm or hurricane can leave destruction in its wake. In addition to home damage, there can also be extensive damage to your lawn, landscaping, and outdoor property. We want to share some helpful tips that you can use following a storm:
Assess the Damage
Following a storm, it is important to walk through your property and look for any damage. Be sure to check all fences, trees, lawns, landscaping, and your irrigation system (if you have one) and look for issues that need repair. When it comes to your irrigation system, you’ll want to check both the main system and the sprinkler heads for signs of damage.
Clean-Up
When cleaning your yard, be sure to pick up any branches, leaves, and sticks. If your trees and shrubs have damage, you may have to prune and trim the plants to encourage healthy regrowth. Also, dump any standing water you find in planters.
Ongoing Care
After storm damage, it is important to regularly monitor your yard to ensure there are no lingering issues, such as standing water. We recommend closely monitoring your irrigation system to catch any problems, as well.
