Lawn Mowing Tips
Do you take great pride in your lawn? There are many factors that can contribute to a beautiful, lush, green lawn, such as weather, watering technique, fertilization, and lawn mowing practice. If you cut your own lawn, and you have been less than thrilled with the appearance recently, we are sorry to tell you, but you may be to blame. Not cutting your lawn properly can lead to damaged grass that looks less than ideal. We want to share some lawn mowing tips to help you achieve the lawn of your dreams:
Grass Height
- Be sure that the grass is cut to the correct height. You don’t want to cut the grass too short and it is dying from the heat of the sun. Grass that is cut too short also allows weeds to take over. Be sure that the grass is cut to a height of 3.5-4” tall.
Mower Blades
- It is important that the lawn mower blades are sharp to be sure the grass is being cut correctly. A dull blade will rip the grass out of the lawn.
Change the Pattern
- You may feel the need to cut the lawn the same way each time, especially if you are a creature of habit; however, it is best to cut the lawn in a different pattern. We recommend having two to three patterns to cut the lawn. This helps to avoid the wheels of your lawn mower making unsightly tracks.
Bag the Grass Clippings
- It may be tempting to let the grass clippings sit on the lawn, but that will ultimately cause damage to your lawn. Take the extra time and bag the cut grass. It can be used in a compost bin.
