Ways To Get Rid Of Unwanted Pests
Florida has plenty of pests to bother you while you are trying to enjoy your outdoor living space. Not only are they a nuisance to people, but some pests can destroy your lawn and landscaping. We wanted to share some tips to help prevent a problem from developing:
Mow Regularly
When grass grows too tall, it is easy for pests to hide. They use the long grass to their advantage to hide, with some insects laying eggs in your lawn. Be sure to mow regularly to keep your grass short. Not only will it keep the pests away, but it will also make your lawn look amazing.
Control Weeds
Just like grass, when weeds are allowed to grow out of control, they become breeding grounds for pests. Be sure to weed your property regularly to help keep pests at bay. If your weeds are a problem, be sure to use a weed killer.
Remove Leaves and Debris
Not only can leaves and debris, such as sticks and branches, kill your grass, but they can also be a hiding place for insects and small rodents.
Clean Your Outdoor Space
It is important to maintain your outdoor living space. Pests love spaces where they can stay out of sight. Take a look around your yard to determine any locations that could be cleaned or organized better so pests and critters do not become a problem. Make sure to:
- Cover garbage cans and move them away from the home
- Clean out gutters
- Remove clutter such as toys and unused lawn furniture
- Do not leave pet bowls or food outside
Avoid Overwatering
When it’s hot outside, we know that homeowners are desperate to keep their lawns and landscaping alive; however, overwatering can do more than harm your property. Standing water is a huge problem. For example, mosquitoes breed in standing water.
