Once an irrigation system is installed, many customers don’t give it a second thought until a problem creeps up. Living in Florida, sprinkler systems become an important part of life. A faulty system can result in a dead lawn in no time, especially during the sweltering heat of the summer, resulting in money going down the drain. With a little extra knowledge, and Challenger Irrigation here when you need us, your system can remain in tip-top shape if a problem happens to arise.
Leaky Sprinkler
If you are seeing an increase in your monthly water bill and it is not due to long, luxurious showers, then you may have a leaky sprinkler head. It can be caused by something as simple as the lawn mower running over the sprinkler at the wrong angle, an overzealous child playing too rough outside, or even a tire that slightly runs off the driveway. If you notice the water leaking from the top of the sprinkler, you can attempt to tighten the sprinkler head. If the leak is still occurring, the culprit may be a broken or worn seal. A new seal can be purchased at any local hardware store.
No Water
If you notice that there is no water coming out of a sprinkler when it is on, there could be a number of issues that you can look into. The first would be to check the water pressure. This can be done by making sure the valves at the backflow device are fully open. If this is not the problem, there could be a blocked or clogged sprinkler head. This can be checked by removing the sprinkler head and flushing the system with water.
Overspray
If your lawn looks like a geyser is erupting when your sprinklers are on, there is a chance that overspray is happening. A simple fix of adjusting the sprinkler head is likely in order. Remove the surrounding soil to access the sprinkler head and adjust to the desired position. Run a sprinkler test to be sure the problem is solved.
