When Is The Best Time To Water Your Lawn?
Now that April has arrived, our weather is only going to get warmer and warmer over the next few weeks. As the warmer weather arrives and eventually changes into hot weather, it is important to know the best time to water your lawn for optimal results. We want to help you avoid sitting water, mold, disease, dead grass, and an excessive water bill.
Best Time to Water
The best time to water your lawn is in the early morning hours, when the sun is just rising. You are looking for a time when the sun is at a lower angle and the temperature is not yet too warm. Avoid the afternoon because it is way too hot and the water will immediately evaporate and not sink into the soil like needed for optimal watering. You also do not want to water your lawn at night. Due to the temperature dropping, the water may sit on the surface of the grass and cause mold, fungus, or disease.
How Do You Know Your Lawn Needs to Be Watered?
Once you have a watering schedule, you should not need to water your lawn daily. If you have new grass seed or sod, you should be watering your lawn every day to ensure the grass takes and grows healthy. In addition, you should be watering your lawn daily if you notice footprints remain in the grass after walking or the grass blades appear to turn inward or sag.
Best Way to Stop Wasting Water
If you are looking to stop wasting water, we recommend installing an irrigation system. An irrigation system allows you to schedule when you are watering your lawn and eliminates the need to turn sprinklers on and off. We can also place sprinkler heads exactly where they are needed, which helps eliminate water that may be wasted on sidewalks and driveways.
