What To Know About Mulch
If you want to give your outdoor property a little love and care by updating the look, one way to do that is with mulch. Mulch is a layer of material on top of the soil that helps the soil’s health, prevents weeds from growing, and keeps moisture from locking into the ground.
Mulch Options
Depending on your aesthetic preferences, there are many forms of mulch you can use on your property. You may be surprised to learn that some organic wood mulches have nutrient-rich components that benefit the soil and encourage plant growth. Another aspect to consider is color. Whether you want wood or rock mulch, there are a variety of colors available. You can choose a color that blends in with your home or one that contrasts. Another important decision is how you are going to purchase your mulch. You can pay by the bag at a garden center or find a landscaping company that will deliver in bulk. Who knew there were so many decisions to make about mulch?
How Much Mulch Should You Use?
As with many things in life, moderation is key. The same goes for the amount of mulch you use. If you use too much mulch, you can suffocate the greenery. It will not receive adequate water, making it impossible to survive. We recommend that you use a light layer of mulch where desired. Use at most three inches of a wood mulch. If you are using a rock-based mulch, it should not exceed one inch.
