Pests That Can Destroy Your Lawn
No matter how well you care for your lawn, there is always something outside of your control that can destroy all your hard work. If it’s not a hurricane or tropical storm, it is outdoor critters and insects. Insect infestations can cause serious damage because the problem is almost always too difficult to spot until it is too late. We want to share some of the common insects you may find in our area:
Billbugs – This insect does most of its damage during the summer months. Be sure to look for worn and wilted patches in your lawn.
Fire Ants – These insects hide themselves under patio slabs and lawns and under the edges of concrete sidewalks and driveways.
Grasshoppers – These insects are herbivores and would love to snack on your lawn for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They can cause serious damage to your lawn and surrounding landscaping.
Ground Pearls – These insects remove the liquid from your grass. If your lawn is properly hydrated you won’t notice the infestation; however, it is still a problem.
Mole Crickets – Your lawn can become seriously damaged from these insects, as they feast on the grass roots. They can cause the grass to appear dried out.
Spittlebugs – Grass in a shady area is usually damaged by these insects. They should not be a problem if you maintain your lawn.
Although you may not be spending as much time outdoors during the winter months, it is important to continue to monitor your lawn closely, as insects will still be out and about. We would hate for your lawn to become damaged before you realize it. If you are looking to have a healthy lawn, one of the best ways is to invest in an irrigation system.
